MONTHLY TALKS Fridays at 2.00 pm.
The Talks are usually at 2.00 pm in the large hall at Drake House, St George’s Road, SW19 4ED. The admission charge is £1.
Visitors who might think of joining the U3A are welcome.
At our monthly meeting we make time for announcements about events of interest to members. The announcements are kept short, but attending the meetings can be a useful way of keeping in touch. Also U3A information and application forms for U3A events are made available.
We also meet for coffee, tea, cakes and a chat once a month, either in Drake House or in someone's home. For details click here.

February 17 Malka Baker on " The Bloomsberries"
The talk is concerned with Virginia Woolf friends & family. How the group lived in squares & loved in triangles.
Malka is a qualified tour guide/lecturer specialising in the Palace of Westminster. She is currently studying for an MA in History at Birkbeck College.
Members who visited Parliament recently, with Bernard Collyer, will remember Malka as our tour guide.
March 9 Christopher Fifield on The Life & Voice of Kathleen Ferrier. Preceeded by the AGM at 12:00 and a sandwich lunch.
Christopher has given a talk on this iconic singer to many U3As across the country.He is a freelance conductor for many years on the staff at Glyndbourne.As a music historian he is the sole biographer of composer Max Bruch & conductor Hans Richter, editor of Letters & Diaries of Kathleen Ferrier & author of a history of her agents Ibbs & Tillett. He broadcasts for the BBC as a musicologist including Prom interval talks.
The talk is timely as 22 April 2012 is the centenary of Kathleen Ferrier's birth.
May 11 Garry Wykes on "Treasures of the Tower of London"
Garry worked at the Tower of London for 12 years & was the Jewel House Warden when he retired.
His talk will include some of the history & facts about the Tower with an illustrated background to the world famous Crown Jewels & Royal Regalia.
He will also comment on some of the moving & tragic events in the Tower's 1000 year history & provide some amusing anecdotes on dealing with the millions of tourists who flock to see the 25000 precious stones that make up the Crown Jewels.
June 15 Fran Sandham on "A Solo Walk across Africa"
The talk is an account of Fran's 3000 mile solo walk coast to coast across Africa. This was the first time anyone had crossed Africa, from Namibia's Skeleton Coast to the Indian Ocean at Zanzibar, on foot & alone.
Fran is an experienced lecturer, a former Rough Guides editor & the author of a critically acclaimed book describing his solo walk.
